Go-Eun Chae describes herself as a humble mind developing creative projects in the performing arts and, at the same time, as a quiet worker utilizing her expertise in Korean linguistics and language acquisition as a resource. She is based in Washington, D.C., and Seoul.

Go-Eun earned her B.A. in Philosophy and graduated as University Valedictorian from Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul, Korea. She then moved to the U.S., where she earned an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Georgetown University, researching grammatical variability in Korean and its acquisition as a first and second language. Her doctoral dissertation explored the second language acquisition of Korean grammar by native English speakers, equipping her with an exceptional understanding of the unique challenges English-speaking learners face.

Armed with an up-to-date perspective on language acquisition and Korean linguistics, Go-Eun has established a highly versatile career as a Korean language expert. She has a strong track record as a teacher, curriculum developer, and localization and translation consultant. She previously served as the Korean Language Manager at Canva and as a Senior Faculty Specialist at the National Foreign Language Center at the University of Maryland. She is currently an Assistant Professor at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center.

At KOCO Center, Go-Eun introduces herself as an extremely patient and compassionate teacher, saying, “I am well aware of the substantial cognitive difficulties in building a Korean mind on an English mind. Students can get frustrated. My role is to constantly listen to their individual needs and provide support, letting them know they are not alone in their learning.”

What students say

“Dr. Chae's teaching method is both clear and systematic... Her profound understanding of linguistics, combined with a keen insight into the mental processes involved in language acquisition, impart a depth of perception that I have not experienced earlier with any other teacher. She is the most skilled and responsive language teacher I have ever encountered.

Classes with Dr. Chae are always engaging and intellectually stimulating. The lessons pass so quickly that I am always surprised when they end, leaving me with a desire to learn more…”
