Immerse yourself in the essentials of the Korean language. This course unravels the intricacies of Hangeul, the Korean alphabet — from the creation and principles behind each character to constructing syllable blocks and mastering pronunciation. You'll finish with basic expressions useful in daily conversation and classroom settings. By the end, you'll be able to read, write, and pronounce any Korean phoneme.
Build a foundation in Korean communication. You'll learn vocabulary and grammar for basic conversations about nationality, hobbies, majors, and occupations. Practice exchanging greetings, asking and answering "what is" questions, and constructing present tense sentences in S-O-V order. By the end, you'll be able to introduce yourself, ask basic questions, and invite someone to do an activity together.
Building on Beginner 1, this course covers essential tools for everyday interactions: asking "how" and "what" questions, basic commands, honorifics, topic and subject markers, and counting classifiers. New vocabulary includes Korean-Sino and Korean numbers, household items, and family members. By the end, you'll discuss housing, exchange phone numbers, order food and drinks, talk about family, and count objects and people.
Expand the breadth of your communication ability. You'll be introduced to past tense and past perfect tense as you learn to discuss daily schedules, make plans, and talk about weather, Korean food, and recipes. Practice applying Korean numbers to temperature, months, dates, days of the week, and time.
Expand your communication skills for different occasions and audiences. You'll be introduced to non-honorifics and further develop honorifics. Grammar includes suggestions, asking for permission, future tense, negations, and conjunction endings — practiced through new vocabulary covering active verbs, adjectives, and hobbies.
For learners with a solid foundation, this course is also suitable for TOPIK preparation. Topics include Korean university culture, sharing travel experiences, and traditional holidays and customs. You'll learn reported speech patterns and expressions for new realizations, plus speaking in casual, non-honorific speech styles.
