This course provides you with a foundation in Korean communication. You will learn vocabulary and grammar that can be used for a basic conversation about one’s nationality, grade level, hobbies, academic majors, and occupations. You will learn to exchange greetings, ask and answer “what is” questions with “is” and “is not” verb conjugations, and construct a variety of present tense sentences using the S-O-V order. By the end of the course, you will be able to introduce yourself, ask basic questions to get acquainted to your fellow classmates, and invite someone to do an activity together.

This course builds on our Beginner 1 class, exploring essential language tools for everyday interactions. The course covers asking and answering “how” and “what” questions, basic commands, honorifics, topic and subject markers, and counting classifiers. New vocabulary includes Korean-Sino and Korean numbers, household items, and family members. By the end of the course, you will be able to discuss one’s housing situation, exchange phone numbers, order food and drinks, talk about one’s family members, and count objects and people.

You will be introduced to the past tense and past perfect tense as you learn to talk about daily schedules, creating plans, weather, Korean food and recipes. You will practice applying Korean numbers in a variety of everyday uses such as temperature, months, dates, days of the week, and time. By the end of the course, you will be able to talk about one’s daily agenda, weather and temperature, Korean food and more.

Advanced Korean 2 (Reading and Discussion) courses are for students who can speak Korean fluently without excessive mistakes.
